Following on from the success of award-winning app Streetmuseum™, the Museum of London has joined forces with AETN UK’s flagship channel HISTORY™ to develop a new app which gives users the opportunity to see Roman London as it was 2,000 years ago.

Streetmuseum Londinium will direct users to locations across London where they can immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and remains of Roman life. At the city’s peak in AD 120 approximately 25,000 Romans lived in London, leaving much behind to explore today.

Users can digitally excavate Roman artefacts, including leather bikini briefs and an ancient manicure set, which tell the stories of life in Londinium. Using their finger to dig and by blowing on their iPhone, users will gradually reveal the objects where they were first found in the capital.

Key Roman sites in London, such as the amphitheatre at Guildhall, will be brought to life through augmented reality video – produced by HISTORY – which will overlay scenes of Roman London against today’s modern backdrop. Soundscapes will also allow users to listen to the hustle and bustle of the forum or the sounds of ritual incantation at the Temple of Mithras.

All these immersive experiences will be brought together on a new map of Roman London – compiled and produced by Museum of London Archaeology – which will be superimposed on a modern map of the capital, allowing users to see how the city has changed and grown over the last 2,000 years.

Vicky Lee, Marketing Manager for the Museum of London, said: “The success of Streetmuseum has shown that museums can bring history to life in new and exciting ways, taking their collections to the streets rather than relying on visitors coming to them. Now, with the launch of Streetmuseum Londinium, we’re going a step further, allowing iPhone users to unearth evidence of Roman London as if discovering these artefacts for the first time.”

Launched in May 2010, the original Streetmuseum brings the Museum of London’s extensive art and photographic collections to the world, guiding users to over 200 sites across London where hidden histories of the city dramatically appear.

Users can look through their phones and see the past emerge, locked as an overlay across the present scene. These can be viewed as ghostly alignments, or the archive images can be brought up and explored in detail, along with information about the Museum’s photographs and paintings. So far 200,000 people have downloaded Streetmuseum worldwide, from Argentina to New Zealand.

St Sauveur would have been the final battle scene shown in Spielberg’s ‘Saving Private Ryan’, based on the Niland brothers, if it had been based on fact and not fiction.

HoutfleurCity of painters and the cradle of impressionism. The sea walk bordered with beautifully maintained public gardens makes a pleasant walk along the mouth of the Seine. The wooden bell tower of the chcurch of Saint Catherine is the largest church made out of wood in France. Hourfleur is one of the most picturesque ports in France and certainly an option for lunch on your way to the chateau.

In this version Arthur is a leader of different sorts, and his Knights are an eclectic band of fighters, each with their own motives and fighting styles. Referred to here as the Samatian Knights, they serve Rome, particularly the church. They are awaiting honorable discharge, but are handed one last mission before they can get it. Guinevere, a woad rebel (people who are fighting to free the land from the Roman rule) and advocate for the land, we actually don’t meet until a good bit into the movie. This time though she isn’t your regular damsel in distress, but a warrior of vast talents too, which is a nice change. Her role, aside from “love interest” eventually for Arthur, is trying to get Arthur to care about the land and freeing it’s people from Roman rule, and the Saxon’s who are now attempting to seize it.

The fight scenes between the various groups of people vying for control of Briton are good, visually stunning and intense. The acting is good, Clive Owen is a good and believable Arthur and would-be King. The Knights under his wing are also very good, each bringing their own personalities, but maintaining a good sense of camaraderie. Sometimes the banter between them had me rolling on the floor. Keira Knightley as Guinevere was OK, there were a few times where I wanted to smack her because she sounded as if she were a broken record. However, if you could stand her in Pirates of the Carribbean, then she won’t entirely grind on you here either. I liked her best fighting…and NOT talking though.

A bit slow in some spots, but endearing characters, fresh take on the story, and extremely well done fighting scenes earn it a 8/10 from me. Hope to add it to my collection of home DVD’s in the near future.

It is an excellent story about an ancient contemporaneous-to-post Roman occupation of Britain and the beginnings of the Saxon invasions. Merlin and Lancelot and Guinevere and Gawain and Galahad are all there, but in more ancient and believable roles. It is a different tale never before told and in a different time. The screenplay, acting, scenery, cinematography and casting are all extremely well-done. The men especially are cast well, and Guinevere is perfectly beautiful. The music is haunting and beautiful and fit for the time and reminds me of The Last of the Mohicans. The fights and battle scenes are exciting and done well. The only reasons I have read that some people did not like this film are that they wanted more of the same old Arthur/Camelot tale, and a 14th century setting, which, when you think about it, is totally unbelievable. This, to me, was much more believable and realistic. Move over Mallory. I really loved this one.

The Directors Cut of this movie must be one of the best ever made. Most times you see a Directors Cut you might get an extra scene here bit of dialog’s there and you ask yourself what was the point of shelling out the extra money to see basically the same movie, in the case of King Arthur, you haven’t seen anything until you see the Directors Cut. So much more action in the battle sequences, more Saxons, also the original ending, was much cooler than the light airy fairy ending that it received. You got to see the reality of conflict. Seeing Arthur marry Guinevere what was the point, we all know they get married.

A roman King Arthur with knights that still have their ‘Morte d’Arthur’ names even though they come from Iran do some very small scale heroics in the middle of a field somewhere in england. The three people who saw what happened obviously carried the story to us a thousand years later.

Small scale, low budget, badly acted, anachronistic and totally unconvincing in everything it tried to show.

Arthur was woeful. He simply couldn’t decide whether he was in ‘Excalibur’ or ‘Gladiator’ so we had this strange roman general who kept coming out with hilarious monologues that bore no relation to the rest of the film’s script at all. Merlin was some sort of degenerate mystic who looked meaningfully into the sky and didn’t do a hell of a lot else. His band too vaguely resembled some sort of shambling Neanderthals instead of normal Saxon guerilla fighters.

In this version Arthur is a leader of different sorts, and his Knights are an eclectic band of fighters, each with their own motives and fighting styles. Referred to here as the Samatian Knights, they serve Rome, particularly the church. They are awaiting honorable discharge, but are handed one last mission before they can get it. Guinevere, a woad rebel (people who are fighting to free the land from the Roman rule) and advocate for the land, we actually don’t meet until a good bit into the movie. This time though she isn’t your regular damsel in distress, but a warrior of vast talents too, which is a nice change. Her role, aside from “love interest” eventually for Arthur, is trying to get Arthur to care about the land and freeing it’s people from Roman rule, and the Saxon’s who are now attempting to seize it.

The fight scenes between the various groups of people vying for control of Briton are good, visually stunning and intense. The acting is good, Clive Owen is a good and believable Arthur and would-be King. The Knights under his wing are also very good, each bringing their own personalities, but maintaining a good sense of camaraderie. Sometimes the banter between them had me rolling on the floor. Keira Knightley as Guinevere was OK, there were a few times where I wanted to smack her because she sounded as if she were a broken record. However, if you could stand her in Pirates of the Carribbean, then she won’t entirely grind on you here either. I liked her best fighting…and NOT talking though.

A bit slow in some spots, but endearing characters, fresh take on the story, and extremely well done fighting scenes earn it a 8/10 from me. Hope to add it to my collection of home DVD’s in the near future.

It is an excellent story about an ancient contemporaneous-to-post Roman occupation of Britain and the beginnings of the Saxon invasions. Merlin and Lancelot and Guinevere and Gawain and Galahad are all there, but in more ancient and believable roles. It is a different tale never before told and in a different time. The screenplay, acting, scenery, cinematography and casting are all extremely well-done. The men especially are cast well, and Guinevere is perfectly beautiful. The music is haunting and beautiful and fit for the time and reminds me of The Last of the Mohicans. The fights and battle scenes are exciting and done well. The only reasons I have read that some people did not like this film are that they wanted more of the same old Arthur/Camelot tale, and a 14th century setting, which, when you think about it, is totally unbelievable. This, to me, was much more believable and realistic. Move over Mallory. I really loved this one.

The Directors Cut of this movie must be one of the best ever made. Most times you see a Directors Cut you might get an extra scene here bit of dialog’s there and you ask yourself what was the point of shelling out the extra money to see basically the same movie, in the case of King Arthur, you haven’t seen anything until you see the Directors Cut. So much more action in the battle sequences, more Saxons, also the original ending, was much cooler than the light airy fairy ending that it received. You got to see the reality of conflict. Seeing Arthur marry Guinevere what was the point, we all know they get married.

A roman King Arthur with knights that still have their ‘Morte d’Arthur’ names even though they come from Iran do some very small scale heroics in the middle of a field somewhere in england. The three people who saw what happened obviously carried the story to us a thousand years later.

Small scale, low budget, badly acted, anachronistic and totally unconvincing in everything it tried to show.

Arthur was woeful. He simply couldn’t decide whether he was in ‘Excalibur’ or ‘Gladiator’ so we had this strange roman general who kept coming out with hilarious monologues that bore no relation to the rest of the film’s script at all. How secure is your home?

We all need to ask ourselves that question. With the economy being what it is, unemployment being so high, and cutbacks in law enforcement, crime is on the rise and will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. Burglary and home invasion seem to be the most popular crimes because once inside the home, it is unlikely that anyone outside will notice.

My name is Craig, and I’m a professional locksmith in California. I’m in peoples homes every day to deal with their security issues whether it’s re-keying a home they just purchased or installing additional deadbolts or locks. I see how many folks overlook simple, inexpensive, but effective ways to better secure their homes. Unfortunately, some of the calls I get are to secure a home after it’s been burglarized or invaded.

I’m going to tell you a few things you can do to make your home as safe it can be without major structural changes and great expense. Your neighbors would most likely complain about barbed wire and dogs patrolling your perimeter, so I’ll try to keep it real.

Most of us have locking knobs and deadbolts on our outside doors. You should have both on every door that goes to the outside from your house.

The first thing you should do is check the screws that hold the door hinges to the frame on all your outside doors. Remove just one of the hinge screws from the door frame. Odds are, it’s 3/4″ long. If it’s 3 inches long, put it back. It’s as good as it gets. If it’s a short one, replace it with a 3 inch long screw. One at a time, (so the hinges don’t move) replace all the screws in all the hinges in your door frame. The longer screws will go THROUGH the frame and into the studs. They may sheer off under stress, but they won’t just pull out like the short ones will from the pine frame.

Let’s talk about your front door. A locking knob and a deadbolt are the LEAST amount of protection you should have. If there’s decorative glass in your door or down the sides, you run an additional risk that a burglar could simply break the glass, reach in, and unlock the door. There is a deadbolt ( a double cylinder deadbolt) which takes a key to lock or unlock from both the inside and outside of the door which could solve this problem, but they’re against building codes in most parts of the country because of the danger in a fire situation; if you can’t find the key, you can’t get out.

You should also have both knob locks and deadbolts on the door from your home to your attached garage (particularly if you have an automatic garage door opener). I once lived in a home where the garage door opened whenever my neighbor across the street opened his. There are people who drive neighborhoods pushing a garage door opener just to see who’s door will come up. Could you be a winner?

I have a door from my garage to my side yard. It’s the one place someone could take their time to break in without being seen by neighbors or passers by. They could do it in the back yard, but not without breaking glass which is noisy.

So let’s talk about those sliding glass doors and windows. No matter what kind of factory locking devise you have on these, you should either install a pin that goes through the frame and track together, or lay a length of wood or metal, like a broom handle or piece of 1X2 in the track. These can’t be disabled from the outside.

Please understand that if someone wants to get into your home badly enough, they will. My goal here is to make sure that you leave no quiet entry possible for an intruder to surprise you. Glass is the weak point in any home but it’s noisy when it breaks. With today’s cordless power tools, it’s not that hard to simply cut a hole in your wood door, reach through, and unlock it, or simply kick the door in. But these all make noise which should alert someone inside that someone is breaking in.

Alarm systems are great, but some are quite expensive. The downside to an alarm is that it usually tells you that someone is already in your house, and perhaps calls the police for you. Has anyone called for police assistance lately? My hat is off to the men and women in law enforcement, but there are way too few of them to respond quickly to all of us.One of the best deterrents is a motion activated light on each side of your house. They are simple to install, inexpensive, and available at any home improvement store. The brighter the better.So you’ve made your home as secure as you can. You’ve installed motion activated lights on all sides of the house, replaced the hinge screws, put slide blocks in all the windows and sliding glass doors. Maybe you’ve even set the alarm.

So… Here we go…. Someone is trying to come through your front door while you and the family are watching TV. If they kick the door in, you’ve got about 5 seconds to respond before they’re looking at you face to face.What are you going to do? Honestly, that isn’t enough time to do ANYTHING. You need more time. You need more than a lock and deadbolt on your door.

The problem:

Almost all doors in homes built since the 1970′s are “pre hung” doors. They’re pre hung in the factory in a 3/4 inch pine frame. The hinges and hardware are all mounted to a piece of 3/4 inch thick piece of pine. It’s very soft wood. The entire frame is then installed in the door opening and screwed or nailed to the studs. You need to understand that the most expensive highest quality deadbolt installed like this is only as strong as the piece of pine wood that holds it. A good kick or strong shoulder can cause it to fail fairly easily.

There’s not much you can do about this weakness, so, I developed a security bar for my doors we call the bar-ricade. Whether you pick my locks, use a key, or break the door frame, you won’t come through my doors quickly once the bar is in place. It’s made from a square tubular steel bar which is incredibly strong, and the 5/16 inch spceially flanged lag bolts are screwed to the JACK STUDS, not the door frame. They mount on any door with no cutting of the casing or trim just using a drill and a 1/2 inch wrench. The whole process takes less than 5 minutes. Even if you rent your home or have an apartment, you can use the bar-ricade because it leaves only a screw hole on each side which can be filled with a little putty and a touch of paint. It will give you MINUTES or more to respond where you only had SECONDS!

My plan is to retreat to the bedroom where I have access to my guns and a cordless phone to call for help. Whenever possible,whether for fire, ambulance, or police, call for help from your land line phone. The emergency services know where that call is coming from even if you don’t have time to tell them. Your cell phone doesn’t give them that information.Once my family and I are in for the evening, I simply slide the bar onto the bolts. To go out, simply lift it out and set it in the corner. If someone really wants to get in my house, I’ll know well before they succeed, and I’ll have time to follow my plan, get my gun, and call for help. Now, I’m in control.
